Chapter 396: Chapter 389: Fetching Scriptures
She placed the medicine down and then proceeded to the dean’s office. The dean had the surname Zhu. He was not that old, probably in his early forties. He was impeccably dressed in a suit, overlaid with a white lab coat. Even the lab coat was worn immaculately, clean and tidy.
“Dr. Xiaotang, please, have a seat.”
The dean gestured towards the sofa, inviting Tang Yuxin to sit.
Tang Yuxin sat down. However, she seemed rather rigid and on-edge. Nervous, perhaps?
It couldn’t be helped. In the past, she had considered the dean of the hospital as an unattainable figure. Despite them both holding the title of ‘Dean’, the status was quite different from other designations.
But, why had he invited her here? Had she made a mistake somewhere? She began to rack her brains – had she recently made any mistakes? But it didn’t seem like she had. She had always been cautious, focusing largely on her work and speaking very little.
Maybe they think she ate too much?
“Dr. Xiaotang, are you comfortable living among the doctors?” asked Dean Zhu with a gentle smile.
But regardless of his friendly demeanor and tone, Tang Yuxin could still perceive an underlying sharpness in his gaze.@@@@
“Yes, very,” she answered, squeezing her hands together on her lap. Her back was soaked with cold sweat, as was her forehead.
“No need to be afraid,” reassured Dean Zhu.
He must have sensed Tang Yuxin’s anxiety, “There’s nothing to worry about. I just wanted to know if you are finding the food here satisfactory?”
The orthopedic doctor was puzzled. He had been the one to examine Mr. Huang at the time, and his initial reaction was that the legs were beyond saving. The flesh on the legs was nearly nonexistent, revealing the bare, broken bones underneath.
Yet, somehow, those legs were saved. He had checked multiple times, Mr. Huang’s legs were undeniably in steady recovery. The legs had been saved miraculously and the skin was regaining its color at a slow yet promising rate.
This was something he had never seen before. A medical miracle.
The surgical doctor affirmed his confusion. What exactly did Dr. Xiaotang do?
“You can ask her.” Dean Zhu continued writing, glancing at the curious doctors. Some had been practicing medicine for over a decade, while others were quite new. Regardless, if they were at this hospital, it meant they were top-tier skilled doctors with noble character. However, every field needs fresh faces.
As time passes, medical developments would quicken. Diseases once deemed incurable might one day have their remedies. This was a prospect they yearned for, and they were all striving towards it.
The orthopedic doctor sighed, “I wanted to ask, but we don’t know her very well.”
The other doctors who came seeking advice agreed. The young lady wasn’t too talkative. They were afraid to approach her, in case their enthusiasm frightened her. On the other hand, they didn’t want to appear cold and risk her thinking they were bullies.
So, they had no choice but to come to the dean for advice, hoping he could share some wisdom.
“No need to rush. You’ll familiarize yourselves. She’s a new doctor we’ve recruited. She’s still studying though. We thought it would be good for her to intern here and get used to the environment. Also, you lot, don’t bully her. You are the senior ones here.”
Chastised by the dean, the doctors felt unjustly accused. They wouldn’t possibly bully the newcomers. They didn’t even dare to start a conversation with her.
Dean Zhu stood and walked over to a X-ray film. It was Mr. Huang’s. Just as the orthopedic doctor had said, if Dean Zhu himself had to perform the surgery, the final decision would have been amputation because the situation was too critical. Not amputating the legs could have risked Mr. Huang’s life.
Yet, in the end, Tang Yuxin managed to save Mr. Huang’s legs.
