Chapter 227: Stepping Into The Realm Of The Extraordinary [Part 1]
"Well, that went better than I expected," Kael said when they finally returned to the safety of the fortress. "But we must never lower our guard as long as the high-ranking tribes are here."
"I agree," Daedalus commented. "Grimhowl Tribe is not the only one we should watch out for. As we speak, people from the Warclaw Tribe have snuck in to steal a look at the Ravage Tribe’s camp."
"As long as they don’t go out of line, that is still acceptable," Leone replied. "I’m sure they are dying to know more about the Aslan Tribe. But our core secrets will remain secure as long as they don’t enter the fortress."
"Shall I add more guards?" Brann asked.
Leone pondered for a bit before asking the grimoire a question. "Daedalus, how confident are you in capturing anyone who manages to infiltrate our fortress?"
"I can capture them before they can even enter the restrictive areas," Daedalus replied. "Why?"
The young man smirked at those words. A plan had suddenly formed inside his mind.
Weren’t the high-ranking tribes curious? He could just let them enter the shallow areas and capture them. That way, he could earn leverage against the high-ranking tribes.
Of course, they were free to deny the affiliation of the captured warriors. That was fine.
How could Leone say no to free Elite Warriors?
"I believe it will be better to loosen the security around the entrance," Leone stated. "Instead of having four guards stand at the ready, let’s reduce it to one."
Daedalus, Kael, and Brann immediately understood what Leone was planning to do. Since the high-ranking tribes wanted to infiltrate the fortress so much, then sure. They’d better take the opportunity he’d give them.
"Kukuku!" Daedalus chuckled. "Nice plan! Let’s do that."
"Indeed." Kael nodded in agreement.
Even Brann smiled faintly. He could already guess what would happen in the future.
"I’ll make the arrangements at once," Brann stated.
"Yes, but do it tomorrow," Leone said. "Don’t alter the security arrangements for tonight. It would look too suspicious if it suddenly became lax as soon as the meeting ended."
"Understood." Brann nodded.
Just as Leone was about to finally reach his quarters, he saw Maximus waiting for him at the entrance.
"Gau!" Maximus greeted its Master with a wave, prompting Leone to wave back.
"We’ll excuse ourselves, Great Chieftain," Kael bowed respectfully. "But before I go, would you like to have a maiden accompany you tonight?"
"No." Leone didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry. Kael had returned to pushing this nighttime arrangement once again.
"Understood." Kael smiled mischievously. "However, know this, Great Chieftain. Aria is always ready to accompany you at night."
"Yes, yes. I heard you the first time." Leone hurriedly increased the pace of his steps before Kael could say anything more.
The two adults smirked as the young man made his escape. Still, the talks that transpired earlier was good news for them.
After all, it meant that Leone didn’t mind having a member of the Aslan Tribe as his companion. Whether it be Yuni, Aria, or anyone else, as long as his first wife belonged to their tribe, everything would fall into place.
"It’s been a while since you waited for me like this, Max," Leone said as he patted the shoulder of his first Familiar. "Do you need me for something?"
"Gau." Maximus pointed at Leone’s pocket.
"Um?" Leone took out the item in his pocket and showed it to the White Kobold. "Are you referring to this?"
Maximus didn’t answer Leone right away. Instead, its attention was locked onto the thumb-sized red gem that rested quietly on the palm of its Master’s hand.
’As expected,’ Daedalus thought. ’Max can sense it.’
The White Kobold was unable to tear its gaze off the gem. It was as if it was mesmerized by the secrets that it held.
If not for the fact that Leone suddenly closed his hand to hide the gem, Maximus might have not snapped out of its daze.
"Gau?"
"I should be the one asking you that question. What happened to you?"
The Kobold started to scratch its head. It also didn’t understand what happened to it just now.
"Let’s head inside your house first, Leone," Daedalus said. "I’ll explain everything there."
Curious about what was happening, Leone invited Maximus inside his house to listen to Daedalus’ explanation.
As soon as the door behind them clicked into a close, Daedalus freed itself from the strap around Leone’s waist before hovering in front of the young man.
"What you have inside your hand is Dragon’s Blood," Daedalus explained. "However, it’s no ordinary Dragon’s Blood. It is the blood of an Ancient Dragon, and a fairly powerful one at that. Maximus is reacting because it has the bloodline of a Dragon, albeit faint.
"Kobolds worship Dragons. Thanks to this tradition, some of them have developed draconic properties. Those who show these qualities are often called Dragon-Touched. They then become the leaders of their respective clans.
"The stronger they are, the more worship they gain from their people. Even true-blooded Dragons will recognize these Draconic Kobolds as their lesser kin."
"I see." Leone nodded in understanding. He then opened Maximus’ status page because he vaguely remembered that it had some special qualities he didn’t pay too much attention to in the past.
—————
Signature Ability: Dragon Blood [EX] - [Level 1]
— Increase Strength Stat by 10%
— Increase Elemental Resistance by 50%
— Increase Physical Defense by 50%
—————
It was then that he remembered something.
Blitz had evolved into a Volt Emperor after he bought a special bloodline for it in the Arcane Store.
"Daedalus, could this be used for..."
"Yes. It can certainly be used."
The grimoire answered before Leone could even finish his sentence.
"But first, we need to buy something else from the Arcane Shop to make it more potent," Daedalus added.
"That way, Max has a higher chance of evolving into a more powerful Kobold with true dragon blood flowing inside his veins. If that really happens, even if he is a Kobold, he would be able to use draconic powers!"
Leone didn’t hesitate to ask the grimoire what they needed after hearing that. He had always wished to make Maximus stronger, especially since he had yet to forget the time they fought Astravor.
Back then, Max had sacrificed himself to protect Yuni, nearly dying in the process.
Not wanting to see something like that happen again, he vowed to not spare any effort in making his first familiar strong.
"I knew you’d say that," Daedalus replied. "Well then. Please buy the Bloodline Awakening Catalyst from the Arcane Shop. This item will augment the power residing inside that concentrated dragon blood and allow Max to reap greater benefits."
"Good!" Leone opened the Arcane Shop and searched for Bloodline Catalyst in its search bar. A moment later, the image of a golden pill with a red rune inscribed at its center appeared.
This consumable item cost 10,000 BP. After buying it, Leone glanced at his remaining BP.
[BP: 49,778]
He still had a decent amount, which Leone could use for emergencies during the war against the Darkmane Tribe.
A moment later, a notification appeared in front of the young man, telling him what he should do next.
————
[Would you like to combine the Dragon’s Blood with the Bloodline Awakening Catalyst?]
[Yes/No]
————
Leone glanced at his familiar with a smile before choosing Yes.
The two items then merged with each other, shining faintly with a golden color.
However, after a few seconds, that golden color turned into white, radiating a gentle glow that made Maximus shudder.
He could feel it.
The moment he consumed this white pill that hovered in front of it, he would cease to be an ordinary Kobold...
And finally step into the realm of the extraordinary.
